The Joliet Auxiliary Police have a long history with the Joliet Police Department. Established in 1955, volunteers had donned uniforms and assisted in parking vehicles on Sundays at local churches. The organization has grown in size and responsibilities. Our current Volunteer Auxiliary Officers supplement the main Police Department (under the Traffic Unit) during parades, marathons, races, and other special events requiring traffic control.

Joliet Auxiliary Police Officers go through a minimum of 30 hours of training consisting of; traffic control, radio communication, first aid, hazmat, department policies and the auxiliary association, defensive tactics, abandoned vehicle program, and other on the job training. They have their organization;  administrative board, and a rank structure consisting of Auxiliary Officers, Sergeants, Lieutenants, a Captain and a Chief.

The Joliet Auxiliary Police runs under the guidance for the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit. For questions about the Auxiliary Police, please call the Traffic Unit at 815-724-3010.
