The Joliet Police Department wants to help reduce crimes of opportunity and provide a safe place for people conducting internet sales. The Joliet Police Department currently offers two official places for internet exchanges:

Joliet Police Department
Main Station - Lobby Vestibule
150 W Washington St
Joliet, IL 60432

Joliet Police Department
West Sub Station - Parking Lot
7196 Caton Farm Rd
Plainfield, IL  60586

Both of the above locations are aimed to provide a neutral area for parties to meet and exchange items. Both areas will be marked with the below sign, are available to use 24/7/365, and are under video surveillance. You do NOT need permission to use these areas; please use them as you need.

Some other helpful tips for internet exchanges:

  • If a person is not willing to meet at a police department of public space, it's probably not a legitimate transaction.
  • Only engage in transactions with local buyers/sellers and people you're comfortable meeting with in person.
  • Inform a friend or family member of your transaction details (where, when, who, time), and take someone with if possible.
  • Don't go into someone else's house, and don't let them into yours.
  • Avoid credit card payments; try to use cash to complete transactions.
  • Trust your gut; if something doesn't feel right, don't meet with the seller/buyer unless you're comfortable.
