The Joliet Police Department takes an active approach on various social media outlets. Make to sure to 'like', 'follow', & 'subscribe' to all of our social media platforms to stay up-to-date with the Joliet Police Department and what's happening in the Joliet community. 

Social Media Comment Policy

Posts and comments on sanctioned Joliet Police Department social media accounts containing any of the following inappropriate forms on content shall not be permitted:

  • Comments not related to the original topic, including random or unintelligible comments;
  • Comments that are not factual and/or accurate;
  • Comments that do not promote civil discussion;
  • Profane, obscene, or pornographic content and/or language;
  • Content that could comprise and ongoing investigation;
  • Any personal identifying information on any person;
  • Defamatory or personal attacks;
  • Threats to any person and/or organization;
  • Comments in support of, or in opposition to, any political campaigns or ballot measures;
  • Solicitation of commerce, including but not limit to, advertising or any business or product for sale;
  • Conduct in violation of any federal, state, or local law;
  • Encouragement of illegal activity;
  • Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; or
  • Content that violates a legal ownership interest, such as a copyright or trademark, or any party. 

As a communications tool, the Joliet Police Department can utilize social media accounts to raise awareness among the City of Joliet and neighboring residents, visitors, community partners, and interested fans & followers of public safety news and information that affects the area surrounding the City of Joliet. Social media sites grant Joliet Police an additional opportunity to share its public safety messages with the general public. The Joliet Police Department can utilize it's social media accounts to post news releases, photos, videos, recruitment information, and important public safety information including (but not limited to) Amber Alerts, information about wanted criminals, missing persons, road closures, power outages, and other emergency announcements.
