The Joliet Police Department Investigations Division is comprised of a Deputy Chief, two Lieutenants, several Sergeants, Detectives, & Officers, and four civilians. The Investigations Division is primarily responsible for the follow-up investigation of crime, and is separated into 'General Assignment' and 'Special Assignment'.
General Assignment
Detectives in General Assignment investigate most criminal offenses, including violent offenses and property crimes. Within General Assignment there are a number of specific assignments including, but not limited to:

Special Assignment
Detectives & Officers in special assignment investigate criminal offenses through specialized assignments and units including:

Joliet Police Evidence Unit - Visit the Evidence Unit page to learn more.

School Liaison & Youth Crime - Investigate criminal offenses involving the youth who attend area schools, primarily the local high schools. Specially trained Juvenile Investigators handle all criminal and status offense cases involving persons under the age of eighteen as victims or offenders. A Detective is assigned as a full-time School Liaison Officer to each City of Joliet public high school (Joliet Township Central, Joliet Pathways Academy, Joliet Township West, & Plainfield South).

Criminal Intelligence - Manage data and disseminate critical intelligence within the Investigations Division and across other elements of the Joliet Police Department.

Joliet Police Tactical Unit - Investigate criminal offenses related to warrants, fugitives, burglaries, robberies, and other violent crime.

Joliet Police Narcotics Unit - Investigate criminal activity related to narcotics offenses.

Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force Unit (TCAT) - Investigate criminal activity related to the automotive industry, including vehicular hijacking, “chop shops”, stolen vehicles, VIN and license alterations, and other related vehicle offenses in Will, Grundy, and Kankakee counties.

Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad (JMANS) - Investigate criminal activity mainly related to narcotics offenses under the direction of the Illinois State Police.

Will County Police Assistance Team (WCPAT) - Investigate criminal activity related to major criminal offenses under the direction of the Illinois State Police.

DEA Task Force - Investigate criminal activity related to narcotics offenses in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

FBI Fugitive/Violent Crime Task Force - Investigate wanted fugitives and violent crime in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Chicago Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory Task Force - Investigate digital forensic related criminal offenses in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
