Rudolph Hoen House — 358 Whittier Avenue

Nominated for its architectural style and the historical significance of its owner/architect, the Rudolph Hoen house is an example of a two-story Prairie style home. This architectural style centered in the Chicago area during the early years of the 20th century. Constructed in 1915 with its cement stucco exterior, the home's structure consists of right angles, much like a cube with little ornamentation. The roofline alludes to an Oriental pagoda due to its slight flare. The roof of the front enclosed porch slopes between its two rectangular side walls, extending from the main home. Rudolph Hoen was the architect for several Prairie homes constructed in the Upper Bluff National Register District during the first part of the 20th century. The house remains a single-family home.
