The City of Joliet’s Department of Public Utilities is the largest utility in the State of Illinois based upon population served that provides all four key water and wastewater services:
- Drinking water pumping and treatment
- Drinking water distribution
- Wastewater collection
- Wastewater treatment
With a staff of approximately 80 people, the department manages and maintains three wastewater treatment plants, 50 sanitary sewer lift stations, three storm water pumping stations, 598 miles of sanitary sewer, 11 water treatment plants, 26 wells, 10 water storage tanks and over 670 miles of water mains. The department provides water and sewer services to the approximately 150,000 residents of the City of Joliet as well as businesses, industry, and satellite communities.
