Fred Walsh House — 606 Campbell Street

The Fred Walsh Home is a 2-story brick Prairie style structure designed and built by Joliet architect Rudolph Hoen in 1920. The first floor is dominated by an asymmetrically-placed open front porch supported on brick piers. The front entry door is set slightly east of center, and includes a single-pane fan light transom and sidelight motif common to the Colonial Revival style. The second floor is visually separated by a concrete string course, which creates a long band common to the Prairie style. The house is defined by window units consisting of a central fixed window flanked by single-pane casement windows as the common window type. The house is topped with low profile original green glazed French tile roof with a central dormer. Mr. Walsh was a prominent real estate developer on the Joliet area, perhaps best known as the developer of the Louis Joliet Hotel in downtown Joliet. The structure is a Local Landmark and is part of the Upper Bluff National Register District.
