Q: Which major roads are maintained by the State or County, and which does the City maintain?
A: The State of Illinois maintains Jefferson Street from Larkin Avenue west, Route 30 from Black Road (6 corners) north and west, all of Larkin Avenue, Route 30 on the East Side from the Train bridge east, Route 6 on the east side from the E.J.&E. train bridge east and Collins Street from Kronmeyer (Joliet Prison) north. The County maintains Black Road from Essington Road west and Caton Farm Road from Illinois 59 to County Line road.
Q: My yard /mailbox was damaged by City snowplows. Who will repair?
A: Sod damage to be repaired by City. Mailboxes to be repaired by homeowner. City may reimburse homeowner for mailbox, however, if mailbox was not installed per the Postal Department regulations, there will be no reimbursement. Homeowner needs to file a claim with the City of Joliet Legal Department.
Q: When will my street be swept?
A: Streets are swept in a regular pattern usually within 4-5 weeks. It is the desire of the Roadways Division to sweep neighborhood streets once every 4-5 weeks. This is dependent on weather and daily workload.
Q: I have a dead animal on my street. Who picks it up?
A: The City has a contract with Waste Management who is responsible for removing dead animals from the street. Their phone number is (815) 280-7854.
Q: What do I do if my streetlight is out?
A: Call the City of Joliet Public Works Department at (815) 724-4200 to report location.
Q: I am having problems with mosquitoes. Whom should I call?
A: The City of Joliet has a contract with Clarke Mosquito Control. They have a hotline to call to report mosquito problems: (800) 942-2555.
Q: How do I report a pothole?

Q: Who do I contact to report that a street sign is down or in need of repair?
A: Call the City of Joliet Public Works Department at (815) 724-4200 to report location.
Q: How can I get a new sign, such as a stop sign or no parking sign?
A: Call the City of Joliet Public Works Department to have a request made at (815) 724-4200.
Q: How do I get my street/alley fixed?
A: Contact the City of Joliet Public Works Department to initiate a “Neighborhood Improvement Project” in your area at (815) 724-4200. If you are calling to have a pothole patched or utility dig up restored, please call the Roadways Division at (815) 724-3650.
Q: How do I get an over the road/heavy load permit?
A: Call the City of Joliet Public Works Department Traffic Engineer at (815) 724-4200.
Q: My recycling or garbage was not picked up. Who can I call?
A: The City has a contract with Waste Management. Please call (815) 280-7854. If you do not receive satisfaction, you may call the City Manager’s office at (815) 724-3720.
