Blues Brothers Con: A Blessed Event

  • Introduction: This 2-day annual event will feature Dan Aykroyd and James Belushi reprising their iconic roles of “Elwood” and “Brother Zee” in an hour and a half performance on Friday, August 19th.

The Blues Brothers will be supported by Chicago Bluesman Toronzo Cannon, and Curtis Salgado, a longtime performer for whom the iconic film’s character “Curtis” is named. Saturday August 20th features an ecumenical Gospel music service led by Joliet-area faith based and civic leaders, followed by seasoned Chicago Blues veterans Mondo Cortez & The Chicago Blues Angels, Dave Weld & The Imperial Flames, and Lil’ Ed & The Blues Imperials.

What else is there to do besides listen to great music? – The 16-acre prison complex will be transformed into a tapestry of sites & sounds which act as homages to the film and will feature movie-themed food, beverages, artwork and, of course, music. Guests can visit “Bob’s Country Bunker,” the “Soul Café,” the “Bluesmobile Display” and the “Maxwell Street Vendor Market” & more!

Will there be food and drink available? – Yes, there will be a variety of food trucks, a beer/beverage tent, plus water and other beverages for sale. If you intend to drink alcohol, please remember to bring a valid state-issued I.D. or driver’s license.

Where do I park? – General Admission parking is available in lots on the east side of Collins St., adjacent to the old Women’s Prison. ADA Parking is available in the Old Joliet Prison lot immediately to the south of the main prison building. Additional parking will be available in nearby designated lots with shuttle service. See parking map below.

Where is the entrance into the Old Prison for the event? – Main entry point is the old “sally port” entrance gate facing Collins St., located about halfway along the east wall of the prison parallel to Collins St. Festival personnel will be there to greet you!

Will tickets be available at the door? – Yes, while available. But purchasing in advance will speed your entry!

Can I leave the event and re-enter later in the day? – Yes, you can leave and will be given a bracelet to gain re-entry.

Can I bring a chair? – Yes! The event will be held inside the prison yard, so you can bring bag chairs and/or a blanket as all seating is on the prison lawn area.

Can I bring an umbrella? – Yes, personal umbrellas are fine (but please be courteous of other guests and their sightlines).

What about coolers? – No coolers allowed. Food and beverages are available for purchase inside the fest. Small purses or bags/backpacks for blankets, jackers, etc. are allowed, but will be checked at the gate.

Can I bring my dog or pet? – Sorry, no pets, other than designated service animals.

No Weapons allowed! – Absolutely no weapons will be allowed *This includes “Concealed Permit Holders”

What’s the bathroom situation? – There will be port-a-potties and hand wash stations set up throughout the prison yard.

Is the event family friendly? – Yes, families are welcome! There will be various activities, vendor areas, Bluesmobile demonstrations, & more.

Can I tour the Old Joliet Prison? – Yes, there will be designated areas within the prison grounds for guests to view.

Will merchandise be available? – Yes, the “Maxwell Street Market” will feature vendors selling a variety of merchandise, and we’ll also be selling exclusive Blues Brothers merchandise!

What if it rains? What if the weather is severe? – Being a rain or shine event, every attempt will be made to complete the show. If severe weather approaches, patrons may be asked to return to their vehicles until the weather passes and emergency weather guidelines will be followed.
